Symptoms Of Helicobacter Pylori

in Infection

There are several symptoms of H. pylori and these can be grouped into two groups. The Helicobacter symptoms are classified into Group One (Classic Symptoms) and Group Two (Non-classic symptoms)

H. pylori Symptoms -Group One:

  1. 1. Abdominal pain

H. pylori cause inflammation of stomach and small intestine lining which causes pain. The build of gases in the intestines during infection is also responsible for pain.

  1. Heart Burn/Acid Reflex:

H. pylori infection can induce excessive production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. The increased production of acid burns the delicate the lining of the stomach, which causes pain. The excessive acid spills back in esophagus, which causes Acid Reflex.

  1. 3. Anemia

Iron deficiency is closely linked with H. pylori. The reduced stomach acid and H. pylori infection have negative effects on the process of digestion. The body is not able to break down food easily, particularly protein.  Hence, the body is not able to absorb minerals present in food during digestion. This leads to deficiency of minerals and vitamins in the body.  Since, iron deficiency is prominently seen in cases of H. pylori infection, anemia is considered to be one of the symptoms of H. pylori infection.

  1. 4. Bad breath:

The H. pylori bacteria produce ammonia when they react with the acid in the stomach.

  1. 5. Chest pain & Pain between the shoulder blades

Some people experience pain in the chest similar to that in the case of a heart attack, when they are suffering from Helicobacter pylori infection.

  1. 6. Diarrhea:

If the H. pylori infection is chronic in nature, then the diarrhea can happen more frequently and last for many days

H. pylori Symptoms -Group Two:

  1. Depression:

The inflammation of the digestive system causes production of stress hormone cortisol.

  1. Fatigue/Low energy:

H. pylori infection leads to digestion problems, which hampers absorption of minerals and vitamins.  This invariably leads to low energy, as the body does not get the required nutrients for normal functioning.

There are many other non-classic helicobacter symptoms such as migraines, PMS, sinus problems, sleep problems, and weight gain issues.
